Extended Services
Schools are now extending the services they offer and many open up their facilities outside school hours.
Study Support is a key contributor to Every Child Matters and is part of the Change for Children agenda.
When can the activities take place?
These extended services activities take place before school, during breaks, after school, in holiday time and as one off events.
How does it work?
Schools consult pupils, parents and the local community about the kinds of activities they want to see. Local authorities, schools and school clusters work with individuals, private companies and voluntary groups to provide what local people want. It’s about making the most of the opportunities a school site can offer and combining it with the services and talent that’s already around locally.
Benefits
Research demonstrates that children tend to do better when schools have extended their services:
- Concentration, behaviour and achievement levels can improve
- Being part of a club or team with interesting activities before or after school, can help motivation,
self-confidence and self-esteem - Children’s behaviour and attitude to learning can improve.
