News: Diwali - Festival of Lights

This ancient Hindu and Sikh festival takes place this autumn on 17th October. It’s date changes every year and is calculated according to the position of the moon; however it always falls in either October or November.

To celebrate this cultural extravaganza, many schools elect to hold an Indian themed week. As a part of this week or to celebrate this sensational festival, why not consider holding an Indian dance workshop?

Dance is found in every culture and India is certainly no exception. It is one of the most ancient forms of dance that is widely believed to remain unchanged.
The Kathak style is the practice of Indian dance that literally translates in to ‘story’. It originates from the Hindu temples of North India and later, became a favourite in the royal courts. Our professional facilitators can teach children the hand gestures involved in Kathak and allow pupils to create their own characters and stories. Our classical dance is a graceful dance that is particularly good for junior classes, although it can be adapted for younger children to enjoy.

Our performer will also arrive in costume and can deliver an assembly introducing the day ahead and some of the cultures and traditions of India. They will be also be equipped with visual aids and will teach students the religions of India and some of the Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
